Biography

Dr. Beacham earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 1966; her Masters of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1967; and her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1990. Dr. Beacham worked in Pitt County Schools before coming to ECU in 1989. She has served ECU in multiple roles, with her latest being the Director of the Teacher Quality Partnership Initiative and Director of Project Heart. The numerous awards that Betty has received include the National Association of Teacher Educators 1994 Distinguished Program in Teacher Education, and the 1994 Christa McAuliffe (Ma-Cull-if) Showcase Award for Excellence in Teacher Education.
